Home for the Holidays

We first met Ms. Sandy and her nephew Jeremiah shortly after Hurricane Harvey.  About 20 Recovery Houston volunteers helped clear her home of flood damaged sheetrock, cabinets, sinks, appliances, personal items and flooring.  Ms. Sandy’s home was not located within a floodplain and it had never flooded before.

Ms. Sandy and Jeremiah were fortunate in that FEMA provided them temporary housing.  However, Ms. Sandy did not have access to adequate funding to rebuild her home.  With your donation, we can help Ms. Sandy, Jeremiah and others return home faster.

Hilliard Elementary School

Due to substantial damage from Hurricane Harvey, Hilliard Elementary was one of 7 Houston Independent School District (HISD) schools that did not open for the 2017/2018 school year.  HISD is diligently working to re-open Hilliard in the Fall of 2018.

Recovery Houston and over 600 volunteers at nuMotion held a community volunteer day to enhance Hilliard’s outdoor spaces.  This included landscaping, planting trees, a community garden, age appropriate play spaces and an outdoor classroom.
